Yet again, we braved the winter cold and checked on our trees. We feared the worst with the frosts being so severe over the last few weeks, but to our pleasant surprise it looks like all the trees have survived. We put some extra guards on the taller trees, and re-mulched around where it had washed away. Jordan just enjoyed surviving the ponding that we are gradually developing.

More Landcaring
We had a bit of promotional opportunity at Landcare today. WIN News was doing a bit of publicity, and the boys went down in their Scout Uniform. And then would you believe that we missed it! I totally forgot to set up the DVD recorder, what a bugger! Anyway I am on the search for it, and have contacted a couple of media monitoring groups to try and get a copy. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
Just a few snaps taken ..
And of course there was the obligatory playground visit
How cool is that? Twister in the playground. It was a lot of fun!

More landcaring
A last minute message from Lenore and we went off to landcare .. it was a bit of a yucky morning and my hayfever played up terribly .. but we needed to replace a heap of stakes that someone had pulled out! Job done, and we felt great!

Landcare again!
Jordan started going along to Landcare regularly now. After we went with the Joeys, he decided that he wanted to going every fortnight. He loves it, and I am so glad that he is enjoying volunteering for something. I went along today to give a bit of a hand, and although we started early it did get a bit hot rather quickly!
He is learning so much as well. Like how to recognise the good, native grasses ….

Learning how to mulch effectively around new trees, to keep the grass away ..

Learning how to remove the bad grasses from the roots so that they don’t grow back …

Learning that even if you can’t pull up the bad grasses, even just taken the seed heads off helps …

This is the Joey Patch that we worked on a few weeks ago, that Jordan has been helping to look after since then!

Landcare Australia
Well, my kids love doing their part. And twice a year the Joey Scouts come and visit a local Landcare site and sort weeds, plant trees, and generally care for the area.
Tonight it was freezing cold, but we all went out nonetheless ….

Measuring our trees from last time.

Tree #10 is this big ……

Digging a hole for a new tree ….

A friend to all animals … Jordan saves a worm from being cut in half by the Joeys and then places him under a safe tree.

Thomas getting into the act as well, taking the last few digs at the new tree hole.
Jordan has decided to volunteer his time on a regular basis to the Landcare site, and will attend regularly with the adult group. He is looking forward to it, and is has found out that he can achieve his Landcare Badge for Scouts as well.

You can find out all sorts of information about Landcare on their website. And watch this site for more photos, as Jordan regularly gets his hands dirty!
