Hooly Dooly!

It has been about 6 weeks since I updated my poor neglected blog … oops … it has just been busy and we have had sickness galore in this house. Culminating with me having tonsillitis  from hell! I have never been in more pain, and I am mighty glad that I am now on the mend. Although I must admit that Jordan has been slow going recovering from his, and is still getting tired at things.

Well, I am going to attempt to update photos and things from the past 6 weeks, so if you are a regular visitor make sure you scroll down over the weekend as I fill it up.

Today, Jordan and I went shopping in town. Real exciting stuff like a new mixer and some crafty coloured wool. For some reason I have decided to knit finger puppets, and other toys. I have this idea of maybe running a semi-regular group for making things like this for the school fete next year. We will see!

We also managed to do some geocaching .. will update that other site soon with our adventures!

Meanwhile here are my first creations …

Just for the sake of taking a photo

It has been a while since I took some photos, just to take some photos. That is to have a bit of a play with the camera. I love taking flower photos, but I have really been a bit out of it lately and haven’t picked up the camera. Most of shots lately have actually just been with my little point and shoot.

Anyway here is what I took today, with a little tweaking in photoshop …

Even managed a bit of a ‘bokeh‘ effect with this one, yep that was natural, no artificial bokeh overlays added!

National Museum of Australia

One of the benefits of living in Canberra is the vast array of cultural and educational experiences that are available for kids and families. And most of them are just a lot of fun! Last year we had a membership to Questacon, which defintely got used well. We went atleast every school holidays, sometimes twice, and then at other random times during the year.

I have taken the kids to the National Museum, Australian National Botanic Gardens, the Australian War Memorial, the National Zoo & Aquarium and many of our local Libraries.

I myself have also gone to the National Art Gallery to see the Masterpieces from Paris Collection which was just awesome!

I got to see Starry Night by Van Gogh in the real life. I was in awe!

Today I also went to the National Library, I didn’t delve too far into it, but there are exhibitions and readings there. I am very much looking forward to spending some time there!

Anyway for many of these things I belong to the mailing lists, because it means you are always the first to know! I must admit I don’t always read them, because I don’t always have the time but I did look through the National Museum Newsletter this morning and discovered two very cool things.

The first was for me, Holly Throsby is performing therein a couple of weeks, for free on the lawns on the shore of Lake Burley Griffin. So I am going to head along to that! I quite like her, very mellow and just perfect for a summers evening on the lake! Check out the info here, especially if you are going to be in Canberra on the 20th Feb!

The second thing isn’t new, I think it must have been offered all school holidays, but it is their Family Trails. A self guided, self paced activity for kids aged 5-12. You can check it our here. I am definitely going to take the kids along to that one.

Ok that is all for now, I just had to share some of my finds! More landcare tomorrow possibly .. the little ones also have Little Athletics, might try to get along to it after Landcare with Jordan.

Happy Birthday Nicola!

December is the month for Birthdays, it is rather funny but there are a whole collection of us that all have our birthdays within days of each, it is really quite painful because I always manage to miss someone!

Anyway seeing as it was Nicola’s 40th I flew back to Adelaide. It was fantastic to catch up with friends and to spend the weekend with Nicola!

Love the head-torch Nicola!

The only one of me I have on my camera, surely someone else took some photos!

Happy Birthday to you!

The vest is finished!

I have slowly been getting back into knitting, you may remember the jumper I made for William way back in June, well I finally got Tom’s vest finished today, He has been hanging around me the last few days as he saw that is was close to being finished. It was very fristrating as I ran out of wool and needed to get to the shop. I couldn’t find the dye-lot, but then, right at the bottom was one ball left with the correct dye-lot! YAY. So it got finished, and today I completed the sewing up .. and he loves it! I was unsure as he doesn’t normally like knitted things, but this has a hood, and does not have sleeves, and being high quality wool it doesn’t seem to itch either.

So here are some pics of the final product …

I’m reading this …

Picked this up from the library, unsure what it would be like. Haven’t read or even heard about the author before, but I am enjoying some the the Young Adult fiction at the moment.

It is called Alyzon Whitestarr by Isobelle Carmody, and is quite unusual but extremely intriguing. A bit of mystery, a bit of the extnded abilities.. lol .. it is hard to explain, but I am really enjoying it! I think I will investigate some more of her books.
