National Museum of Australia

One of the benefits of living in Canberra is the vast array of cultural and educational experiences that are available for kids and families. And most of them are just a lot of fun! Last year we had a membership to Questacon, which defintely got used well. We went atleast every school holidays, sometimes twice, and then at other random times during the year.

I have taken the kids to the National Museum, Australian National Botanic Gardens, the Australian War Memorial, the National Zoo & Aquarium and many of our local Libraries.

I myself have also gone to the National Art Gallery to see the Masterpieces from Paris Collection which was just awesome!

I got to see Starry Night by Van Gogh in the real life. I was in awe!

Today I also went to the National Library, I didn’t delve too far into it, but there are exhibitions and readings there. I am very much looking forward to spending some time there!

Anyway for many of these things I belong to the mailing lists, because it means you are always the first to know! I must admit I don’t always read them, because I don’t always have the time but I did look through the National Museum Newsletter this morning and discovered two very cool things.

The first was for me, Holly Throsby is performing therein a couple of weeks, for free on the lawns on the shore of Lake Burley Griffin. So I am going to head along to that! I quite like her, very mellow and just perfect for a summers evening on the lake! Check out the info here, especially if you are going to be in Canberra on the 20th Feb!

The second thing isn’t new, I think it must have been offered all school holidays, but it is their Family Trails. A self guided, self paced activity for kids aged 5-12. You can check it our here. I am definitely going to take the kids along to that one.

Ok that is all for now, I just had to share some of my finds! More landcare tomorrow possibly .. the little ones also have Little Athletics, might try to get along to it after Landcare with Jordan.

Updating

Phew .. I just realised I have not updated our blog since the 29th November, and here it is the 19th January! All I can say is that it has been a hectic couple of months! I would like to say that things are going to calm down now, but knowing our household I don’t think that is going to be the case.

Anyway I am going to spend tonight updating my blog with photos taken over the last month or so, including some snapshots from the Jamboree. And again I will be making the effort to update almost daily :)

On this day .. 36 years ago

Yep, it is that day of the year .. I cannot believe another 12 months have gone by and I am another year older.

New Born Newspaper Clipping

Check it, here I am .. 36 years ago .. probably not quite to the day, but not far off. Look at my mum, she is so young, 17 to be exact. And here I am now, with my own children. It is hard to fathom sometimes, most days I dream about what is going to happen when I grow up, and then I remember, that I am grown up, well mostly.

So what are my plans today? Well I have been up since 4am so hopefully a nap sometime would be good, at midday we have Tom’s first Gymnastics competition, just a friendly one, but his first nonetheless, he is so excited! Then for dinner we are heading off to Hogs Breath, I love eating there, and with the environment the kids can make noises and it doesn’t matter!

Some of you may be wondering why I have moved my blog, well the blog on my digital scrapbooking site has primarily turned into an Announcement Blog, for freebies, subscriptions and other stuff and then I had my blogspot which I had started for photo sharing. So I decided to move over to my own domain and try and conquer wordpress. I love reading those blogs that share their trials and tribulations of family life, Picklebums, Dadthing.com and A Roaming Aussie Mum are among my favourites. I am not going to pretend that I will be able to reach their standards, but I do want to be a bit more personal. One day I will find a home I love for my blog, I seem to have moved and moved, but oh well! Here is to new beginnings …. oh yeah and a Happy Birthday to Me :)
